Bar Buzz: The Final Edition

Our Biggest Midnight Photo Yet!
"Just don’t stop let’s keep the beat pumpin’. Keep the beat up, lets drop the beat down. It’s my party dance if I want to we can get crazy let it all out. It's you and me and were runnin this town and it's me and you and were shakin the ground. And ain’t nobody gonna tell us to go cause this is our show"

I've got one word for this week at Luckie's: Epic. In our last "official" activity at our sponsored bar, WAKA's Peninsula Division gave Luckie's a night they'll never forget and one that most certainly left them begging for us to use them as our sponsor again. (Although, what happened to the flip cup?!) In fact, we were so good at partying that our expert panel of Bar Buzz judges have been racking their brains trying to figure out just exactly how these rankings should shake out. In short, thanks, thanks a lot for making my job incredibly difficult. But enough with the whining... we know what you came here for SO let's get to it!

#15 Moose Knuckles: They've finally become an endangered species... we should all take a moment of silence in remembrance of the team that came in Week 1 as #1, a sleeper amongst giants, and now appears at a lonely #15 in our Final Week......

Okay, that's enough.

The Foulies Searching for Scalawags
#14 Off in the Corner: Remember that tale about the rabbit and the turtle and winning a race? I think it's safe to say that the rabbit didn't make out in this one either. It seems the shine on OitC's Bar Buzz season was bright in the beginning but now is nothing more than lack luster.

#13 Just For Kicks: JFK is most likely our least consistent team at the bar. However, we wouldn't have the same experience if it weren't for their mingling antics. Especially when it comes to Bryan Freed who's ability to simultaneously take a shot and give top rated kickball advice from the ages is unrivaled.

#12 Vicious and Delicious: They were there. They sat alone in solidarity in their crisp white shirts... they were... defeated. Although we do appreciate their effort - coming out after such a heart wrenching loss on the field - it just wasn't enough to push them towards the top.

#11 Jiminy Kick-It: Although there weren't many crickets this week at the bar (you couldn't shut people up if you paid them, (or bribed them with alcohol)). The Kick-It's brought forth an impressive showing in our final stretch. Is this just the beginning for our once allusive friends of Pinocchio??

BDB's! Keeping Gangsters real.
#10 Chubby Gangsters: It was a showing you'd expect from the Chubies... mingling, checking out the game on the big screen, BDB's keeping the party alive with some water pong action... they may not always make it to the top but one things for sure, they keep us grounded with their undeniable presence. (Wait a minute this doesn't make any sense does it? Oh well... you get what I'm saying)

#9 Foul Balls: Mimi Gill's mission to get a pic of each team in their pirate hat was clutch in getting the Foulies some much needed mingling points. And they had a good group make it to midnight. However, in the end the Balls were left to just walk the plank. (come on, you knew that was coming).

#8 Saved by the Balls: This was a big week for the Balls as they brought from the gallows (thanks Foulies for getting all these Pirate terms stuck in my head), the likes of a team we've never seen before. They certainly stood strong and made their presence known, but their lack of mingling with the rest of the crew kept them behind in the rankings.

Andrea Up to her usual Bar Buzz Antics
#7 Chicken Tetrazzini: talk about a team who listens to feedback... One important Bar Buzz contributor (who will remain nameless because... well... I say so) remarked that the CT's were "really good at mingling". For a group who's highest criticism at the beginning was their inability to mesh, they've come a long way. In an important side note, we would like to recognize the handy work of Andrea Hoffman. Her ability to stay up late, drink like a fish, and forge WAKA friendships is one of the best in our league. She's tried tirelessly to get CT to the top and for that, we thank her (besides, she gives us some of our best material)

We think it's fitting Brent is finally more focused on the
prize than holding up the "# of W's". And....
Whis is that imposter?!!
#6 Emperors Club: The VIPS were only one week off from winning both the Bar Buzz title and securing the #1 seed in the division and - as to be expected (this is sarcasm people)- they partied like any other seasoned social team in celebration. Too bad they also managed to lose the belt in the meantime.

#5 New Kickheads on the Block: Yet again, Hassell and Co. managed to snag the belt from the reigning champs. While I'm not sure where she developed her clepto skills, the Kickheads continued with their consistent partying ways. If only they could find a way to clinch the belt week by week rather than resorting to the five finger discount. Perhaps next year will be their year to shine.
Caught Red Handed!
#4 Battlestar Ballsacktica: The Ballsacks were everywhere this week. And get major extra points for having the first (recorded) instance of non-WAKA co-mingling. Confused? Ask BB's party captain, Peter Kuhr.

#3 5 O'Clockers: There isn't much to say about the Clockers that hasn't already been said in previous weeks. Coming off of a HUGE win, they threw down like the best of them. Unfortunately, they were ultimately over come by one of the largest takeovers in WAKA Pen Div history

Flexing their Guns as the Bar Buzz Champs!
#1 Jagernauts & Rumspringa: Believe me when I say... these teams came out of the rankings dead even in scoring.  So we could do two things here (since it is a subjective blog and all)... give the belt to the Springa's because they've never had it. But I'm pretty sure our friends in Smurf Blue would never stand for that. Orrrrr we could give to Jager and everyone could say that this party was rigged from the start. But the bottom line is - these two teams consistently matched each other all night long in performance. You couldn't go far without running into groups of the two co-mingled together. With just a small meeting of the minds in the back corner of Luckie's in early Spring, they've become the Chubby Gangster/Chicken Tetrazzinni combo team of 2011. And ultimately the alliance prevailed... Beyond anyone's control. Beyond anyone's knowledge (since this time it wasn't done on purpose). The party fever rages within these two teams - who's roots are only separated by the color red - which makes them the Bar Buzz Champs of our Final Week.
Inquiring minds wanna know: Who's the Best?!

Bringing Home the Belt is Tough Work.

And finally, I would say that it's sad that our friends... you all remember them: the meaningless group line dances?... have left our rankings. But really, the only people who are SOL on this one are those white boys who just can't dance.

And now for a few houskeeping details from our Bar Buzz staffers:
1. The Belt's run has not yet been completed. At the EOS we'll crown our overall winning team - computed based on each team's overall ranking and combined scores. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS PARTY.
2. We here at the Buzz would like to give a special shout out to Ashlee "No Glitter" Gitkos who helps us remember what we can't from the night before thanks to her outstanding paparazzi skills. We really couldn't do this without her.
3. And thanks to you our loyal readers, while this isn't our last column we just want to be sure that those of you who ACTUALLY READ the blog (not just search for the number next to your team) are recognized for your ability to sit through cheese, sarcasm and dry wit and find humor and/or enjoyment out of this whole adventure.

Until next time -- Bottom's Up!
Trici

  3. The Bar Buzz is way better than any content I could provide for this blog... Trici, you are amazing, and because you are so awesome, I won't complain about the clear bias you have shown your own team all season. Nope. Won't complain at all...

And for the record, even though you tried to censor his image, I hope all of Eddie's attendance and mingling points went to the VIPs this past week!!!!

Seriously, great job. As a token of appreciation, you will be playing kickball for free next season!

  4. Trici, you did an amazing job with the Bar Buzz -- very entertaining!!! And don't worry, you are not alone in having pirate terminology cluttering your brain after that night ;)

Congrats to the Alliance and all the other teams who have made it to the top this season!

Last (but not least), a shout out to all the kickballers who participated in wearing the pirate hat, as we were successfully able to hold all 15 teams captive to the pirate shenanigans :) See you all tonight AND (if not tonight) at the EOS tourney/party!!!
