Week 1 Recap- Ballsagna vs. Boom!

Ballsagna's debut as a new team this season started off a little shaky in week 1 as they battled Boom! for a W.  And it was down to the wire! As in up to the bottom of the last inning!  As the Boom crew found out, it ain't easy overtaking the Ballsagna squad.  The delicious ingredients of many players of several teams all baked into one leaves other teams salivating...(Dang, I just drooled on my keyboard just thinking about it...)
In the first inning Patrick Jones of Ballsagna was able to kick in a runner to score first on the board.  With Philip Baltzis pitching for Boom and "Big G" George Kiriazidis pitching for Ballsagna it was hard to get anything on base on either side.  Ballsagna led for 3 innings until Boom knocked one in, too.The Ball's didn't make it easy though.  A relay throw to catcher Mark "Rabbit" Thompson proved fruitful as a runner was tagged out while trying to squeek in. Also, Big G was able to serve his 1st strike out of the season.  Ballsagna came back in the 3rd when there were 2 on base with 2 outs.  Tim Paetz kicked a bomb to left center where it was deflected and rolled into Field 2 for a 2 run double.  It was looking good for Ballsagna sittin' pretty at 3-1.
The 4th inning was a whole "nuther' game, though.  With 2 outs, Big G kicked a single short fly to right, but as the ball was thrown in, Big G went for 2nd and performed a dramatic belly slide where he came up a little injured.  When asked about his performance on that play he responded, "Yeah, I kinda shook up my 6-pack there, but I walked it off and I'm ok now.  I also wanna thank my boo, Lorraine Adkins,  for running out there and making sure I was ok and showering me with hugs and kisses even though I was all sweaty and muddy and....oh wait. That didn't happen. Never mind." Lorraine's response to that was, "Well, if he dies, at least he'll die happy doing what he loves best." (How romantic is THAT?!)
His slide was all for naught though, as Ballsagna came up dry and couldn't get anymore runs in.  Then it was Boom's turn.  Ballsagna couldn't stop the bleeding as they kept punching kicks through.  Bailey Brown made an awesome bunt down 1st to load the bases with still only one out.  By the time it was all over, they scored 2 more to tie up the game.  All either team had to do was hold the offense.  Boom did it and Ballsagna didn't. Simple as that.  Boom came through when they needed it most.  With 1 out and 1 on, a kick was made to left field but was missed.  The relay throw was made to shortstop, but the runner, Ryan Schmid, rounded 3rd and kept going!  The throw to Mark was spot on, but the ball was wet and slippery and the tag reflection went nowhere resulting in a walk off win by BOOM! Final score 4-3.
Woohooo! What a fun game!  Right until the end.  I love those....but I love them more when we win.  Anyway, team Boom! deserves the win with a great comeback, but I must note that Boom plays games twice a week, while Ballsagna just formed and played their first ever official game together, which means...if Ballsagna can hang with an experienced team, the Ball's are going to be a hot team when they are finally "cooked" to perfection.  All the ingredients are there, but they are a little raw right now.  So it's back in the oven at 350 degrees for another 30 minutes.

 Yummmmmmmmm

P.S.-Holly Lenard and rookie Anna Boffo of Ballsagna are doing an awesome job right there in the middle of it all.  Excellent plays by those two at 2nd and shortstop positions. There are some minor bugs to work out on communication in that area of the field, but that's with any team. Good job, ladies!

Stay tuned for next week when we show you how to cook up some "Fowl" Balls! (AKA Chicken Nuggets) Yummmmmm...
