Week 1 was not without upsets. |
Battlestar 4, Chaotic KILFs 3
The KILFs looked like they were in over their heads after allowing 4 runs in a sloppy first inning. They shook off the jitters though and clawed their way back into the game. The KILFs bases loaded rally in the 5th ended as Brandon Covington was thrown out at home by Michael Machie to secure the W.
Breaking Brad 9, New Kickheads 5
Breaking Brad broke out the offense in week 1!
#WAKAholics 7, Kick in a Box 3
The game was tied going into the bottom of the 4th inning, when the 'Holics top of the order came back around. The inexperienced KiaB sqaud wasn't able to contain them, as the Hashtags exploded for 4 runs.
Rumspringa 6, Ballsagna 1
Geoff Morehart struck out 4 kickers and the 'Springa defense worked their way out of several jams to earn the big win (and also cost yours truly a $1,000).
PBJT 6, Kick A$$ 4
Steve Monahan's 2 RKIs in the top of the 5th put the Jellies ahead. Megan MacDowell and Brent Obershaw each drove in a run to pad the lead. It was a lead that would hold, as PBJT earns a BIG week 1 victory over the preseason #3 ranked team.
Wrecking Balls 8, Foul Balls 4
The Foulies scored 3 runs in the first, but couldn't contain the former Chubby Gangster offense. The top of the Wrecking Balls went 6-6, including a big home run by Keith Morehart. A dominant week for the Morehart family apparently.
Plan B 4, JFK 3
In the 4th inning, JFK made the decision to intentionally walk Kearsten Lewis to 'burn' the top of the Plan B lineup. It was a strategic move that back fired, as two kickers later Jimmy Wilcox booted a 3 run home run to take the lead. In the 5th, JFK's Jill Simms drove in a pair to tie it up. The tie wouldn't hold though. Plan B loaded the bases up and Matt Coup's line drive found a hole to earn a walk off win.
Ballz Deep 6, Boom 6
This was a back and forth affair that saw the the lead change several times. In the 5th inning, Boom held a 2 run lead. They made a decision to intentionally walk a guy to get to Amroth Hough. With the bases loaded, she belted a line drive that tied the game up.
DCOMB 6, WAKA Shame 0
Jeffrey Shildt pitched 5 shut out innings as Don't Come on our Base made a splash in their kickball debut.
Lots of great games during week 1. Be sure to check out Dottie Wentworth's photos on Facebook.
