The Official 'F' Cancer Challenge

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

That's not actually something I say often, but I am pretty happy to get to write this blog to introduce to y'all yet ANOTHER awesome new addition to CLUBWAKA's 2018 VA Charity Kickball Tournament.

Not only are we adding in an official DJ (shout out to our DJ Matt Chambers from Squared Away Entertainment) and Papa John's onsite this year (shout out to all of the extra calories I am going to eat on 10/20), we are rolling out what just may be the greatest challenge ever in the history of all challenges.  This is infinitely better (and safer) than the tide-pod challenge or any of those other crazes all the kids were up to this year.  This, my friends, is none other than...

THE OFFICIAL 'F' CANCER CHALLENGE!

So before I explain to you the WHAT, let me tell you about the WHY.

WHY??

  • It seems like lately, there is ALWAYS something that people are disagreeing about. But I can, with like 99.999999% confidence, say that something that EVERYONE can agree about is that CANCER SUCKS.
I bet more people would agree
    that cancer sucks than would
agree that these puppies are cute,
    and that's saying something because
    these puppies are SO cute.
  • So now that we are all on the same page and agree that cancer sucks let's remember that not only are we going to have a blast playing kickball on Saturday, October 20th, but we are going to be out there for a reason. And a damn good reason at that. To RAISE MONEY for the Sentara Cancer Network Mission Fund.
  • At the tournament in 2016, we raised a little over $5,000.  Last year that total dipped a bit, but not this year. This year we are going to hit $7,500 raised.
  • But how might we do that??  Well, my friends, I have a solution for you. And this solution is called THE OFFICIAL 'F' CANCER CHALLENGE.  So on to just exactly what this challenge is...

WHAT??

So what exactly is this challenge?  Well there are three categories in this challenge - Fundraising, Fun, & Friends. Each category will have specific criteria for teams to earn points. Let me detail these out for you now.

Fundraising

There are two ways to earn points in this category.

WAY #1 TO EARN POINTS: Total Amount Fundraised

Points in this category will be decided at the conclusion of the event, and will be stack ranked against every team in in the field.

Ex: Let's say there are 20 teams in the tournament.
  • 1st place for amount raised = 200 points
  • 2nd place for amount raised = 190 points
  • 3rd place for amount raised = 180 points
  • ..... all the way to 20th place for amount raised = 10 points
(if there were only 16 teams then 1st place would start at 160 points and 2nd at 150... and so on)

WAY #2 TO EARN POINTS: Hitting "Base Status" Milestones

  • Points in this category can be earned leading up to and during the event.
  • When a team reaches a certain "Base Status" they will receive that amount of points.
  • The "Base Statuses" are as follows ...
    • SINGLE (100 dollars raised will earn your team 10 points)
    • DOUBLE (200 dollars raised will earn your team 20 points)
    • TRIPLE (300 dollars raised will earn your team 30 points)
    • HOME RUN (400 dollars raised will earn your team 40 points)
    • GRAND SLAM (500 dollars raised will earn your team 50 points)
  • Teams will earn points for EVERY status they hit, and there is no limit on how many teams can reach each status.
  • Let's say team A ends up raising 332 dollars.  That means they would have hit single, double, and triple status. Meaning they received 10, 20, and 30 points added to their total points!

Fun

  • There will be up to 10 'fun challenges' given between the official introduction of The Official 'F' Cancer Challenge and the conclusion of the event.
  • Successful completion of each will earn your team 10 points. So there is a potential to earn up to 100 points in this category.
  • These could be social media challenges, team spirit challenges, or other things like that. These will be posted to the event's facebook page and noted as an official 'fun challenge'.
One example of a 'fun challenge' prior to actual tournament day would be for your team to post a video testimonial about why this tournament is important to you.

An example of a 'fun challenge' given on the tournament day would be to take a crazy team picture and use the official hashtags for the event. #CLUBWAKAKicksCancer
A wonderful example of what a crazy team photo might look like.

Friends

  • Teams will earn 10 points per rookie (brand new) to CLUBWAKA they recruit for their team.
  • So a team with 5 rookies would get 50 points, and a team with 15 would get 150 points.
  • SPREAD THE CLUBWAKA LOVE and invite all of your friends!
  • The team that recruits the most rookies will get a bonus of 50 points.

Basically, these three categories of The Official 'F' Cancer Challenge encompass what we hope people gain from this tournament - an fun time with friends raising a crap ton of money to help fight cancer.  (The official definition of a crap ton is $7,500 plus)

I am so excited to see how the inaugural year of The Official 'F' Cancer Challenge goes, and I will most certainly be keeping you guys updated.  It's gonna be fun. Real fun. I may even try out the whole Facebook Live thing during all of this too.

Oh, and the team that wins The Official 'F' Cancer Challenge not only gets bragging rights, but EACH member of the winning team will receive a 10$ off code for a CLUBWAKA season in the future, as well as some legit CLUBWAKA swag, and even more awesome prizes donated by our sponsors for this event.

So find ya friends and sign em' up ASAP!  If your team waits too long to get registered, you'll start falling behind in the standings for this challenge!
