Bar Buzz – a Guidebook for the Newbies

As a newbie to the REAL WAKA Wednesdays scene, I have figured out that it’s a little overwhelming. Walking into the stadium last week made me feel a little like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz – I realized I wasn't in Kansas (summer kickball) anymore. 300+ people, 18 different t-shirt colors, legitimate music playing over a sound system, and that’s all just the game. The game is easy to navigate, I find my team’s colors somewhere in the parking lot, allow the team captain to lead us to one of the 3 fields  (I still don’t know how they’re numbered), wait for my turn to kick, and go to my position to play. It’s simple.

Luckies is complicated. Luckies can be difficult to navigate. Luckies is huge and with 300+ people who should be there, it may be hard to figure out exactly where you need to be, and where you can fit in. There are different groups...think of it like high school. You've got the following kinds of people in WAKA world:

-The “Flip Cuppers”: These are the people who really want to play flip cup and want everyone to play as well. But watch out, their game is good. They start the games, win the games, and end the games.

-The “Patio People”: These people dislike the loud music and just want to enjoy a beer with their friends. They can be found on the patio, usually talking to a bunch of different people from different teams.

-The “Tablers”: The Tablers’ natural habitat is at a table and can be found with multiple empty shot glasses and pounders. Though they are very social, they are very comfortable in their nest, the table.

-The "Dancers": They need no explanation. Their natural habitat is the dance floor and they can dance to anything luckies throws their way. Watch out for these ones because they will get you out of your seat no matter how hard you resist and they'll dance like no one's watching, but trust me, we're all watching!

-The “Barbies”: Don’t let this name fool you. These “Barbies” are known for their common interest – the bar. They can be found sitting at the bar observing all that goes on. These “barbies” are the sly foxes of Luckies.

-The “Wobblers”: The wobblers are the people who really love to dance but may be shy about making their debut on the dance floor. Their large migration to the dance floor occurs once every Wednesday during the Wobble song. After that, they get hooked and will be dancing the majority of the night.

-The “Karaokians”: This species of WAKAies have multiple variations. In fact they’re almost like snowflakes where no two are ever alike. You've got the ones who are on the mike all night, the ones who have that one go-to song, the ones who only sing the classics, the ones who blow you away (yes I’m talking about you B&C member who spat that Eminem!), and the ones who only sing with a group.

And last, but definitely not least…

-The “Chameleons”: If you ever need to find one of these people, you know it’s a challenge. Someone thinks they saw your Chameleon over by the Barbies, but your friend swears your Chameleon was just playing flip cup a second ago. The Chameleons are all over the place. They have no natural habitat. They can fit in with the Patio People and in a flash be jamming it out with the Wobblers.

So who are you? If you haven’t figured out your place in the crazy world of Luckies yet, I’m sure you will. I know it can be scary and overwhelming but everyone’s nice! Except the exceptional non-WAKAie creepers...don’t talk to them. Do you think there are more groups to be added? Let me know! Comment below! (I can totally bust a rhyme guys!)

But more importantly who is this week’s winner of the #BarBelt?? While this team has yet to get on the twitter bandwagon (jump on it quick!!), they seemed to throw down in all of their newbie glory. They threw everyone for a loop when they came out of nowhere/the "back"/the karaoke area and took over. This team was stealth, like a snake waiting for the right opportunity to strike with their turn-out numbers and surprising everyone. They may still be navigating Luckies but I think they’re off to an epic start.

Congrats B&C gang, y’all rocked it!

Now follow @WAKAbarbuzz on twitter dammit! J

Peace out dudes!
