CLUBWAKA Brewery Bus Tour - Important Info

Thank you all for joining us on the inaugural CLUBWAKA Brewery Bus Tour! We're really excited to have everyone join us for this cool event. I want to take a moment to go over some information to help everyone prepare for a great time on Saturday.

Today is the day!!! A couple of additional notes and then a reminder of the schedule info.

DRIVE SAFE: We are going to drink a lot of beer today. A LOT. Make sure you have a good plan for getting home. A reminder that we purchased some Uber codes to help. Please use the following Uber codes to help pay for your safe ride home.

FOOD/ENTERTAINMENT: Each brewery we visit will have some food and some have live music.
  • Oozlefinch: Authentic German Food Truck
  • O'Connor: Captain Crabby
  • Coelacanth: Waffletina
  • The Bold Mariner: Lobsters2u & A Bite Of Main -- There will also be live music by Julz Gat
  • Oozlefinch: When we return there will be live music by Brian Shultz

SCHEDULE
  • 1 PM: Check-In @ Oozlefinch (81 Patch Rd, Hampton)
    • We will have a table set up where we will check you in and give you a wristband.
    • SPECIAL: 10% off all beers
  • 1:50 PM: BOARD BUS
  • 2:30 PM (estimated): STOP 2 @ O'Connor Brewing
    • 15% off all pints
    • Our gathering spot will be in the "lounge" area
    • Any "wristband only" members or individuals that chose not to check-in in Hampton can get their wristbands here.
  • 3:25 PM: BOARD BUS
  • 3:45 PM (estimated): STOP 3 @ Coelacanth Brewing
    • $1 off any 16 or 13oz pour (excluding barrel aged beers)
  • 4:40 PM (estimated): BOARD BUS
  • 4:55 PM (estimated): STOP 4 @ Bold Mariner
    • $1 off all Pints
  • 6 PM: BOARD BUS - Travel back to Oozlefinch
SCHEDULE NOTES:
  • We will do our best to stay within the scheduled time frames, but all of these are estimated time frames. Travel time between each venue will vary so we'll make some adjustments on the fly. Our goal is to make sure that we have a solid 45-60 minutes at each brewery before.
  • With that said, it's important that when time is called that we move efficiently to the bus and get ready to board. I don't think it'll take us too long to board the bus. We won't have any TSA screenings or metal detectors, so when it's time to go, we can go!
  • When it is time to move on to the next brewery, we'll make an announcement. To help keep track of everyone, we recommend that everyone organizes into small groups of 4-5 people to practice the buddy system. This way, it'll be easier for us to account for everyone, since we'll be able to go directly to each group to get a quick count. If you have a group of friends, please let me know who should be put together. If you don't have a group, let me know and I'll match you up with others... For those familiar with the kickball.com system, you can create your friend groups from your profile as well. The last thing we want is to leave someone in the bathroom of Bold Mariner while we drive back to Hampton!!!
BUS RULES:
  • NO alcohol is permitted on the bus. I know, I know, but we have 4+ hours of brewery hopping so we can save the boozing for the stops.
  • Please do not leave trash on the bus. Anyone who gets out of control or destructive may be denied entry onto the bus. (CLUBWAKA will get charged for any excessive cleaning or damage, and we don't want that happening)
  • Neither the bus company or CLUBWAKA is responsible for any lost or misplaced items. Please do not leave any personal property on the bus.
  • The coolest kids sit in the back.
CHARITY
A portion of every seat sold will benefit the American Cancer Society through our Relay for Life team, CLUBWAKA KICKS CANCER. Thank you all for your support. CLUBWAKA Players Spent This Weekend Raising Money to Fight Cancer & Help Kids

Namaste.

Just one week before Christmas and CLUBWAKA Hampton Roads members were in the giving spirit. It started on Friday night with the Inaugural Winter Wonderland Charity Bar Crawl. Over 60 revelers took over Downtown Hampton, enjoying great specials and company at The Grey Goose, Stillwater Tavern, Venture Kitchen, and Taphouse. Proceeds from the wristband sales raised $325 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula and several participants also brought toys with them to donate to needy families. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this great event.

There were some pretty cool toys donated!

The giving didn't stop there. On Sunday afternoon, CLUBWAKA kickball and volleyball member Jillian Simms held a charity yoga class at the Tribal Yoga Studio in Hampton. Several people came out including over a dozen VA Peninsula kickballers. Not only did Jill's class relax their minds and work their bodies, but it raised $510 for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life!

I continue to be blown away by the selflessness and caring of our community. This weekend is yet another reminder that it's not just about kid's sports and drinking beer. We are at our strongest when we come together for a purpose. Thank you all for your support of these great charity events.

"Tell them what they'll win, Rod!"

Here on the Peninsula we are all about kicking cancer… It seems however, that cancer is peskier than we thought and a new approach may be needed, a more aggressive approach.

This season how about we run it over?!?!  And we’re not talking about running it over in some golf cart or mountain bike… We’re talking about running it over from behind the wheel of…. (wait for it, cue Bob Barker throwing it to Rod Roddy) A NEW CAR!!!

For only $5 you can purchase raffle tickets, benefiting the American Cancer Society and be entered to win a new 2013 Jeep Wrangler or Volkswagen Jetta courtesy of Southern Auto Group.   If you’d like to get an up-close and personal view of your potential new ride, the Jeep Wrangler will be out on display on March 9th at the WAKA VA Raptor End of Season Tournament.

To purchase tickets, seek out current WAKA VA Raptor Bad News Beer members and WAKA VA Peninsula Chicken Tetrazzini captains Adam Henry
and Andrea Hoffman (soon-to-be Henry).

WAKA Nike Hoodie Contest Results

Earlier this week, I put a contest out on the blog. For every person who put a link to the VA Peninsula league website on their Facebook wall with a couple of reasons why they play and why their friends should play. On Friday, I would draw 2 winners of a brand new WAKA Nike Hoodie!

The winners are posted below, along with a video of the drawing (sorry for the weird audio, first time really using the camera). But before I post that, I want to share some of the awesome responses that kickballers posted on their walls! We had 27 participants with over 14,000 friends who may have potentially seen the league.. Here are a handful of the best responses.

Matt Wellbrock of Rumspringa takes an opportunity to market two things he's passionate about;
There are two things I love the most in this world; The United States of America....and Waka kickball! Sign up for our upcoming spring season, you're guaranteed to have good times. Also pay your entry fees on your Bank of America Cash Rewards credit card and save 1% on your purchase, which you can use to buy a waka bomb at Luckie's, Brent knows what I'm talkin' about.
The Jagernauts' Julie Kittelson keeps it short and sweet.
FREE BEER. If you sign up to play.
More than one kickballer played up the romance angle with their pitches. Heidi Etter;
Tried online dating and it didn't work, tried to pick up people at bars and that failed...then come on out and try kickball! Many a relationship has started from this sport! There's plenty of very hot, single guys and girls to try to mack on! If you're already in a relationship, what better way to get out and do something fun with your significant other to spice up your relationship. Plus, you'll get to meet other super cool couples to hang out with!

We see exactly what attracts Free Ballin's Tommy "Shit Kan" Zuppke to WAKA.
Kickball, Booze, Hot Chicks, and More Booze...and Hot Chicks....
Well said... There are two types of people according to Kick Ass' Nathaniel "Jorts" Johnson. Which one are you?
If you love America, love beer and love me, then come play kickball in the spring. If you're a commie-loving, no fun-having waste of space who loves beer, then still come play, but don't tell anyone I sent you.
There are so many more awesome testimonials that were shared. I wish I could put all 27 down. But without further ado, let's announce the winners (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)

Please join me in congratulating NKotB's Kristen Saunders and Free Ballin's Tommy Zuppke!

Registration is open for the Spring Season! To join, please go to www.kickball.com/vapeninsula!
If you would like to purchase WAKA Nike merchandise, please visit here! Hurry though, they are only taking orders through 3/13!

Players, need your help spreading the word about the spring season. We need free agents and possibly another team to get us to a good 16 team league... Want one of those sweet NIKE WAKA sweatshirts? I'm going to do a contest and give away 2 hoodies. All you have to do:
1.       On your facebook status, put a link to the league website: www.kickball.com/vapeninsula
B.      Include a comment talking about how much fun it is or why you play.
III.     Below your status, be sure to tag me in a comment to make sure i see it and you get entered in the drawing. (If you want to talk about how awesome I am too, than by all means, go ahead)
Drawing will be done Thursday night at 8 PM. Good luck!

* If you win, i'll reach out to you and get your shirt size before placing the order on Friday. The site says it'll take about 4 weeks for delivery.

Used Sporting Goods Drive This Weekend!

Kickballers,

Earlier this week, the Chubby Gangsters' Emily Cook put the call out on the VA Peninsula facebook page, to see if anyone had a used pair of baseball cleats for an underpriviledged student at her school who couldn't afford a pair. Well that simple request has spawned a full blown movement and a clothing drive, lead by Emily and the Foot Snipers, Kate Barcus!

If you have any lightly used sporting equipment or athletic gear, please bring it to the fields this week and find Kate or Emily (pictured). They'll be collecting the gear and donating it.

Any help you can contribute is greatly appreciated! Together, we as kickballers can make a difference!

WAKA Wednesday at War Memorial Part II

Peninsula Pilots vs. Petersburg
Wednesday, June 15, 2011
7:05 PM
Kickballers get in FREE if they wear their WAKA shirts.

Kickballers,

Tomorrow night, we have the 2nd of Two consecutive WAKA Wednesdays at War Memorial for the Peninsula Pilots game! If you missed last week, you have another chance to make it out to the ballpark. It's a really good time. Laid back atmosphere, great college baseball players (even some pro draftees), and some cold refreshing beers from the Tiki Bar. Also, WAKA Kickballers will be featured in the in-between innings games. You don't want to miss that. Last week, I almost pulled the upset of the century by beating Dr. Jeremy Pinier in the Dizzy Bat race, Andy Tapley won a free round of golf by chipping a shot over the center field wall, and Jeff "The Smooth Operator" White had one of the all time worst performances in a shopping cart race (seriously, the mascot beat him, and I think the mascot is supposed to intentionally lose)!

Afterwards, head over to Luckie's for some post-game pounders! The Bar Buzz Belt will be on the line!

All in all, it's a great time, and I hope to see everyone at the park and Luckie's tomorrow!

If anyone has any questions, please let me know!

- Brent

WAKA Wednesday at War Memorial!

Kickballers,

As you know, we're taking a break from kicking the balls for a few weeks due to the Pilots games at War Memorial the next two weeks, but that doesn't mean we can't still have a good time on Wednesday!

Wear your WAKA shirt to War Memorial and get FREE entry to the Pilots game vs. Petersburg! The game time is 7:05. If you've never been to a Pilots game, you'll be in for a treat! Great laid back atmosphere, talented up and coming baseball players, and of course, the famous Tiki Bar and deck!

Hope to see you guys out at the ballpark!

WAKA Kicks Cancer

Our awesome Relay captains: Andrea and Melissa!
Happy Thursday Peninsula Kickballers! Did you know that we have our very own Hampton Relay for Life team, and you can be a part of it?  We have already raised over $1200!!! Relay for Life is an annual fundraising event put on by the American Cancer Society.  This year it will be taking place on June 3rd at Darling stadium right here in Hampton. Relay is an overnight event where teams camp out around the track and walk throughout the night. Each team is expected to have someone walking at all times. There are fun events planned throughout the evening and into the morning. We would love to have you join us as we fund raise and walk to help in the fight against cancer. Please click on the link below to register.
If you would like to contribute, but can not join the team there are plenty of other ways you can help.  Here are just a few fun and exciting ways to help out your WAKA Relay Team:

  • Make a donation to the team by going to http://main.acsevents.org/goto/WAKA
  • Buy a WAKA Koozie on a Wednesday night from Andrea Hoffman (CT) or Melissa Rarick (CG)
  • Attend the Egg Dash on April 23rd.  (See the invite on Facebook)
If you have any questions about Relay for Life please contact Melissa Rarick by email or on facebook.  (rarickmv@verizon.net)
